Véronique Dubois-Côté likes images, words, sounds and stories. She has a Bachelor degree in Film and Communication and a Master degree in Film, with a specialization in Screenwriting, from Université de Montréal, Québec, Canada. After her studies, she began to teach film theory and history, as well as screenwriting, creation (documentary and fiction) and photography, in a pre university program in Québec, Canada. In parallel, she also worked on short film and photography projects. In her work, she likes to explore reality using a poetic point of view.
In 2008, she moves to Umeå, Sweden, where she starts a new family life with her husband, artist Sebastian Mügge. With him, she begins a rich collaboration as a art documentarist, with the help of both film and photography. She also has the opportunity to lead film and photography workshops in her new country, among others for the educational association Studiefrämjandet and the Screenwriting Program at University of Umeå. In 2012, she meets artist Gunilla Samberg, who was at that time looking for a filmmaker to document her art project Molnskugga. The idea evolves and the film becomes an independant documentary on the project itself. Molnskugga shows nine women with nine different cultural backgrounds who meet around the words of the Swedish poet and Nobel Prize winner Tomas Tranströmer. They read and discuss poetry (in Swedish as well as in their own language), and through the words, they comment their life (old and new) in Sweden and link to each others. At the end of the project, the nine women appear on scene for a common performance. The film Molnskugga has been shown for the first time to the public in autumn 2014.
In 2015, she shot the short film It's a Mügge Life with Sebastian Mügge. The film was finished in 2016 but still remains unshown. During 2016, she worked for Swedish Television as a scriptwriter, researcher and reporter for children programs.
Véronique Dubois-Côté was born in 1975 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. She currently lives and works in Kristianstad, Sweden.
